High Voltage Emergency Power Renewal
The $15.4 Million power upgrade was completed in February 2016. It encompassed a complete renewal of the facilities’ high voltage emergency power system. The project required two phases to insure the Hospital had sufficient emergency power during the construction process. To accommodate the new generators, the project required the construction of an air intake plenum, exhaust plenum and modifications to the building’s structural steel. It also included modifications to the existing fuel oil systems, ventilation systems and addition of a diesel emissions reduction system complete with on-site urea storage.
The upgrade left the Hospital with a new system, greater capacity and flexibility, the ability to make closed-transition transfers with the utility and the ability to operate the generators for demand response.
