Bell - Upgrade AC Hydro and Standby Power Generation 1260 Don Mills Road, Toronto
The project entailed upgrading the existing AC power feed for a Bell Canada critical communications building from its original 120/208V system to a 600V system. It also included the installation of a new 1 Megawatt standby power generator with a state-of-the-art Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) scrubber that reduces emissions by 98% and reduces noise pollution by up to 42dBA. Close coordination with Toronto Hydro and neighbouring buildings was essential to orchestrate several service shutdowns to install new High Voltage transformers and load break switching. The existing standby generator was modified to run the new 600V system and re-integrated into the new power system with the new secondary generator housed in a new enclosure in the rear of the building. Project scope also included extensive exterior excavation, structural upgrades, contaminated soil extraction, new and modified fuel storage equipment and monitoring controls, TSSA inspections and coordination, mechanical system upgrades and modifications (HVAC, Plumbing, Urea systems), door security upgrades, fire alarm upgrades, a new main fire pump installation, PLC modifications to integrate the new system with the existing controls for Building Automation and remote monitoring country wide. When complete, the Owner will have the capability to take advantage of Peak Shaving programs offered by Toronto Hydro and Environmental Governing agencies. They will result in millions of dollars in saving over the lifecycle of the equipment. Completion September 2020.
