Toronto Police Service Headquarters - Fire Alarm System Upgrade, Toronto

Toronto Police Service Headquarters

The 12-storey building was originally constructed in 1988. The project entailed the installation of a complete new two stage fire alarm system consisting of fire alarm control panel, fire alarm displays and control centre, fire alarm graphic user interface, fire alarm remote annunciator and fire alarm remote power supplies. New fire alarm initiating devices and speaker strobes were installed on all floors and in all stairwells. The project also required the installation, testing and verification of elevator interface, security interface, building automation interface and sprinkler system interface. All construction staff required security clearance from Toronto Police Services (TPS) before gaining access to the site. Security was of paramount importance and factored into scheduling access to highly restricted areas. Often, timeframes and access to areas were reduced or cancelled due to a pending police crisis. To address this reality, the schedule was prepared with a secondary work area available each day to reduce the impact. Close coordination with the building operators was essential for a successful project.
